WELCOME TO THE RILES YEARS

"Excellence in education is a journey, not a destination" Wilson Riles

"THE RILES YEARS" is a compilation of the comments of leading authorities who knew Wilson C. Riles during his tenure as a staff member of the California State Department of Education (1958-1970), and as State Superintendent of Public Instruction (1971-1983). Their views provide an intimate picture of Riles' non-adversarial, calm, reasoning style which helped to bring compromises between groups with different and conflicting objectives. For more information, students, faculty, visiting scholars, and members of the public are welcome to consult Riles' papers, as well as other collections documenting California's public educational history, in the Wilson Riles Archives and Institute for Education.
